Instructions for my'VILLE |
ALL students have my'VILLE accounts, just like all students have campus email accounts. If you are a returning student and created your my'VILE account last year, then nothing has changed. If you are a new student, or are a returning student who never created an account, Information Technology created your account for you over the summer.
Your my'VILLE account is your access to many new features on campus, not just the my'VILLE system itself. For instance, if you are a resident hall student, you will use your my'VILLE account for authentication to ResNet. Another example is that you will use your my'VILLE account to access the wireless network in Ganser Library.

Account Name |
General format: first letter of your first name, first letter of your middle name, and the first six letters of your last name
If you do not have a middle name: the first two letters of your first name and the first six letters of your last name
Note: your account name is in all lower case; do not use any capital letters
If you are not the first "John Q. Public" to have an account, you will have a number at the end; example: jqpubli3
|
| |
Password |
- Default password: your birthdate in MMDDYY format
- Example: if you were born on February 6, 1985 then your default password is 020685
- Note: the leading zeros are required! And you only use the last two digits of your birth year
- You can change your password anytime you like, and Information Technology strongly recommends that you change it from the default one as soon as possible
- When you change your password, it must 6 characters in length and contain at least one letter
- Note: it is best to use a combination of letters and numbers to reduce the chance of hackers guessing it.
|
| |
Don't know or can't remember your account name? |
- Click on "Need a hint?"
- Identify yourself as a MU student by typing in your student id number (your "M" number) and then your birthdate (in MMDDYY format; leading zeros are required)
- Note: when typing in your "M" number, you must use a capital "M"; a lower case "m" will not match
- If you do not know your "M" number, use your Social Security Number (do not include dashes)
- Click on the button to continue to Step 2
|
| |
If the system was able to authenticate you: |
|
Your account name will be displayed in bolded red for you.
If you wish to reset your password, you have the choice to do that now. Password changes take effect immediately.
|
| |
Otherwise, you will receive a message that your information was not correct: |
- Did you use a capital M? MU student id numbers start with a capital letter
- If you used your SSN, did you leave out the dashes? 123456789 is the proper format
- For your birthdate, did you use leading zeros and leave out the slashes? 062484 is the proper format for June 24, 1984
|
| |
If you try three times unsuccessfully: |
- A resolution form will be displayed, asking for your name, etc.
- All fields are required
- For the "account name" field, type in what you believe is your my'VILLE account name
- This information will be sent to our Help Desk; your account will be investigated and the underlying problem will be resolved
- An email will be sent to your campus email account to notify you when the problem is fixed

General Instructions for Using my`VILLE |
my`VILLE is a personalized web page that allows you to search for study partners or rides home in an online student directory, check current money balances, connect with your teachers and other students, have a little fun with games, and much more. There are over 30 different functions (called channels) that can be used, such as, Directory Search, Briefcase, and Computer Lab Availability. |
To customize your own page, click on Preferences. To see how a function works, click on the Help icon which is a "?". |
| Basics: |
 |
the help document |
 |
causes the channel to be the only thing you see on the screen. To return to the main page, with all your channels shown, click on the left arrow button |
 |
minimizes your channel so all you will see is the title, not any information |
 |
detaches the channel and makes it a whole separate page. This is different than the magnifying glass in that you are no longer connected with my`VILLE. To get rid of the page, click on the "X" in the upper right-hand corner. |
 |
deletes the channel altogether |
