Getting Started

First, you need to create an account!
 

1. Click on the "Create your account" button on my`VILLE's login screen.

2. Now identify yourself to the system by typing in your MAX username and password/pin. For your MAX userid, you can use either your "M" number (be sure to use a capital M) or your Social Security Number. Your initial password is your birthday in MMDDYY format, although if you have already logged into MAX, you probably have changed this to something more secure.

3. Click on the "Step 2" button.

4. If you have typed in your MAX information correctly, you will receive a message that states "Your login name for my`VILLE is:"

a. Your new my`VILLE account name will be displayed in bold letters.

b. The general format is: first letter of your first name, first letter of your middle name, and the first six letters of your last name.

c. If you are not the first "John Q. Public" to have an account, you will have a number at the end; example: jqpubli3

5. If you received a message that your information was not correct:

a. Did you use a capital M? MU Student numbers start with a capital letter.

b. If you used your SSN, did you leave out the dashes? 123456789 is the proper format

c. If your password/pin is still your birth date, did you leave out the slashes? 062484 is the proper format for June 24, 1984

d. Do you not remember your password/pin? Contact the Registrar's Office from 8am to 5pm Monday - Friday (717) 872-3035; contact the Help Desk (717) 871-2371 on nights and weekends.

6. If you have typed in your MAX information correctly, you now can indicate what password you would like to use for my`VILLE. This password may be the same as your MAX password/pin, if you wish; or you may set it to be different for a higher level of security.

7. You retype the same desired password in a second time for confirmation.

8. Click on the "submit" button.

There! You have now completed your part of the process! The programs are now being run to create your account as requested and to synchronize the systems; this may take 10-15 minutes to run. Thank you for your patience.

 

Once your account has been created...

Now that you have successfully created your account, you can begin using the system:

 

1. On my`VILLE's login screen, type in your user account for my`VILLE as it was displayed during the account creation process.

a. Reminder: the general format is: first letter of your first name, first letter of your middle name, and the first six letters of you r last name. If you are not the first "John Q. Public" to have an account, you will have a number at the end; example: jqpubli3

b. Note: your account name is all lower case! Make sure your "Caps Lock" key is not accidentally set on.

2. Next, type in your password for my`VILLE, just as your typed it in during the account creation process.

3. Click on the "submit" button.

4. If you see the my`VILLE login screen but it says "You have not provided the correct username or password." you have not successfully logged in. Re-enter your userid and password to try again.

5. If you cannot remember your my`VILLE account name and/or password:

a. Click on either "Forgot it?" or "Change password?"

b. First, identify yourself to the system by typing in your MAX userid and password/pin. For your MAX username, you can use either your "M" number (be sure to use a capital M) or your Social Security Number. c. Next, you indicate what password you would like to use for my`VILLE. This password may be the same as your MAX password/pin, if you wish; or you may set it to be different for a higher level of security.

d. You retype the same desired password in a second time for confirmation.

e. Click on the "Submit" button.

f. Great! You have now completed your part of the process! The programs are now being run to reset your password as requested and to synchronize the systems; this may take 10-15 minutes to run. Thank you for your patience.

6. If you see the my`VILLE screen and it says "Welcome <your name here> you have successfully logged in! You can now access and customize your personalized information.

 

General Instructions for Using my`VILLE

my`VILLE is a personalized web page that allows you to search for study partners or rides home in an online student directory, check current money balances, connect with your teachers and other students, have a little fun with games, and much more. There are over 30 different functions (called channels) that can be used, such as, Directory Search, Briefcase, and Computer Lab Availability.

To customize your own page, click on Preferences. To see how a function works, click on the Help icon which is a "?".

Basics:
the help document
causes the channel to be the only thing you see on the screen. To return to the main page, with all your channels shown, click on the left arrow button
minimizes your channel so all you will see is the title, not any information
detaches the channel and makes it a whole separate page. This is different than the magnifying glass in that you are no longer connected with my`VILLE. To get rid of the page, click on the "X" in the upper right-hand corner.
deletes the channel altogether
